Basement Wall Thickness

Basement wall thickness ranges from 6″-12″ thick walls depending on the location of the home and the surrounding soil and environmental conditions. Basement floor thickness typically measures 4″. To find out what basement wall thickness and basement floor thickness levels are required for your home, contact your Town’s building and permits department.

Basement Wall Thickness Guidelines

Most states have minimal guidelines so it is always best to check with your town/state before building your home. The minimum reinforced concrete footing thickness for most towns/states is 6 inches or 1-1/2 times the length of the footing projection from the foundation wall, whichever is greater.
